The United Kingdom has pledged up to £160 million ($200 million) in humanitarian aid to support Syria’s recovery this year.

The announcement was made by the British Foreign Office during the European Union-led donor conference for Syria held in Brussels.

The UK government stated that the funds will be allocated to provide essential services for Syrians, including access to clean water, food, healthcare, and education throughout 2025.

The Brussels conference, hosted by the European Union since 2017, was previously held without the participation of the Syrian government. However, for the first time this year, Syrian officials took part in the discussions.

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas emphasized the urgent need for support in Syria, highlighting the recent wave of violence in the coastal regions.

However, she also expressed hope, referring to the agreement reached on March 10 to integrate the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) into the country’s new security structure.

EU Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management, Hajja Lahbib, stated ahead of the conference that the total financial commitments are expected to be lower than previous years due to significant cuts in US humanitarian and development aid.
