The United Kingdom has halted gas shipments to Europe via a major pipeline, Interconnector, due to equipment failure, possibly until March 8, US financial media reported Sunday, citing the operator.

The report said the pipeline, which supplies gas to Europe via Belgium, has become an increasingly important energy source after "severe cuts" in exports from Russia.

At the same time, the newspaper reported that gas shipments from the UK had slowed even before equipment problems because the country's domestic market needed more fuel due to the cold snap.

However, the suspension of gas supplies through the Interconnector pipeline is unlikely to have a somewhat significant impact on Europe's energy situation, given that European natural gas storage is more than 60% full as of March 1, a seasonal high on record. data published by the association of European gas infrastructure operators showed on Saturday.
