British police have arrested four people suspected of spying on Jewish sites in the United Kingdom on behalf of Iran, authorities said Friday.
According to Reuters, the arrests are part of an investigation into alleged surveillance of locations linked to the Jewish community.
Investigators said one of the suspects is an Iranian national, while the other three hold both British and Iranian citizenship. The arrests took place in Barnet in north London and in the nearby town of Watford.
British lawmakers and intelligence agencies have repeatedly warned about Iranian activities inside the UK in recent years, citing concerns over espionage and threats targeting Jewish institutions. Authorities in Australia have also linked some antisemitic incidents to actors connected to Tehran.
Helen Flanagan of the Metropolitan Police Service said the arrests are part of a long-running investigation. The suspects range in age from 22 to 55.
Police said six additional individuals were detained during the operation on suspicion of assisting those allegedly involved.
The arrests come as the war between Israel and the United States on one side and Iran on the other entered its seventh day.
Israeli military chief Eyal Zamir said the conflict is entering a new phase after what he described as the successful completion of an initial surprise offensive that established air superiority and disrupted Iran’s ballistic missile network.
