The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has inaugurated the Al Dhafra Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Power Plant, boasting a remarkable production capacity of 2 gigawatts.

This colossal solar power station now holds the title of being the world's largest of its kind in a single location.

During the inauguration, the Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi emphasized the UAE's commitment to enhancing energy security and diversifying its sources by creating a diverse and flexible energy mix.

This initiative aims to reduce emissions, bolster the national economy, and support sustainable development efforts.

Located just 35 kilometers from Abu Dhabi, the Al Dhafra Solar Power Station, completed in a single phase, is expected to supply electricity to approximately 200,000 households while averting the release of 2.4 million tons of carbon emissions annually.

Spanning an area of 20 square kilometers, the project created 4,500 job opportunities during the construction phase.

The power station incorporates nearly 4 million dual-faced solar panels, employing innovative technology that maximizes electricity production by efficiently capturing sunlight using both the front and rear sides of the solar panels.

The Al Dhafra Solar Power Station was developed by the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar), in partnership with the Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA), EDF Renewables, and Jinko Power, in collaboration with the UAE's Water and Electricity Company.
