The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has issued a stern condemnation of North Korea’s recent attempt to launch a military reconnaissance satellite, marking another troubling escalation in the Korean Peninsula.

This comes following Pyongyang’s failed missile launch attempt in May. The UAE expressed its concerns during a session of the United Nations Security Council titled "Non-Proliferation: Democratic People's Republic of Korea."

Amiera Alhefeiti, Acting Chargé d'Affaires and Deputy Permanent Representative of the UAE delivered the statement, underscoring the gravity of the situation. She voiced apprehension over information disseminated by North Korea’s official media, revealing its intention to conduct another launch despite the failure of the ballistic missile carrying the satellite.

She referenced the Security Council's resolution prohibiting any missile launch using ballistic missile technology by North Korea.

The UAE forcefully urged North Korea to cease its unlawful, dangerous, and provocative activities.

Alhefeiti stressed that her country would like to highlight three main points. Firstly, it is imperative for Pyongyang to halt the intimidation and terrorization of civilians through repeated launch operations.

She emphasized that the prior warning issued by the concerned North Korean authorities does not legitimize these actions. It is regrettable that civilians in Okinawa, Japan, are forced to deal with alarms at four o'clock in the morning due to North Korea’s dangerous and illegitimate activities.

She reiterated the UAE's solidarity with neighboring governments and peoples, as well as the entire region, and called for unified messaging from the Security Council to North Korea, emphasizing compliance with its resolutions and urging against further experiments.
