Turkish Official: Earthquake Death Toll Rises to 2379

Turkish Vice President Fuat OktayTurkish said on Tuesday that 52,000 afflicted people have been distributed to shelters.

Moreover, he added that the death toll from the earthquake that struck Turkey has risen to 2379, with 14483 people injured.

It is worth mentioning that, a 7.4 magnitude earthquake hit near the city of Kahramanmaras in southern Turkey, located 33 km from Gaziantep, a major city and regional capital in southern Turkey, according to the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority.

 The authority confirmed that 32 aftershocks occurred after the earthquake, the largest of which was 6.6 degrees on the Richter scale.

Commenting on the earthquake, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that ambulances and rescue teams were sent immediately to the areas affected by the earthquake, adding, "We hope to overcome the disaster with the least possible losses."

The earthquake was felt by the residents of Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Cyprus, Armenia, Syria, and the residents of some Egyptian governorates, including Greater Cairo.
