The Embassy of Türkiye in Cairo hosted a solidarity gathering for Palestinian families on January 1, 2026, marking the New Year with a humanitarian initiative aimed at supporting those affected by the war in the Gaza Strip. The event was organized in cooperation with the Embassy of Palestine in Cairo and the IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation, and brought together around 200 Palestinian families at the embassy’s headquarters in Cairo.
During the gathering, food aid and financial assistance were distributed to participating families, while the event was attended by journalists, social media influencers, and Egyptian and Palestinian cultural figures. The program opened with a Qur’an recitation by a young child, dedicated to the victims of the conflict in Gaza.
Turkish Ambassador to Egypt Salih Mutlu Şen said Türkiye chose to begin 2026 by standing directly with Palestinian families, describing the year as critical for Gaza and the period that follows. He stressed that Türkiye’s support would continue through concrete humanitarian and medical assistance, delivered in coordination with Egyptian authorities and civil society partners.
The ambassador noted that Türkiye had played a central role, alongside Egypt, the United States, and Qatar, in the peace framework signed in Sharm El-Sheikh in October 2025, and reaffirmed Ankara’s commitment to lasting stability in Gaza. He also pointed to large-scale public solidarity in Türkiye, citing a massive march held on Galata Bridge in Istanbul on the first day of the year in support of Palestinians.
