On Thursday, the Turkish Ambassador to Cairo, Salih Mutlu Şen, underscored Egypt's pivotal role in providing aid to Gaza, while detailing Turkey's extensive humanitarian efforts and announcing forthcoming high-level talks aimed at further solidifying Egypt-Turkey relations.
The announcement came during an iftar event hosted for Egyptian media, marking a significant moment of diplomatic outreach and solidarity.
Ambassador Şen revealed that Turkey has dispatched 21 airplanes and 8 ships loaded with humanitarian assistance to Gaza, demonstrating a strong commitment to alleviating the crisis in the region.
He noted that a significant portion of this aid reaches Gaza via Egypt, with Egyptian authorities playing a critical role in facilitating these operations. The delivered aid, ranging from 2,000 to 3,000 tons per shipment, underscores the scale and seriousness of Turkey's support efforts.
Addressing the logistical challenges of aid delivery, the ambassador urged Israel to streamline border processes to ensure quicker and more efficient aid access to Gaza. He called for immediate action to allow the entry of food and essentials into the embattled area. Looking ahead, Ambassador Şen expressed optimism for a ceasefire in Gaza and the prompt commencement of reconstruction efforts, appreciating Egypt's significant contributions to these goals.
Highlighting the fruits of diplomatic engagement, Ambassador Şen reflected on Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's successful visit to Egypt. The visit paved the way for key discussions across cultural, educational, security, and trade sectors. The anticipation of President El-Sisi's reciprocal visit to Turkey promises a series of high-level meetings aimed at further enhancing the bilateral relationship between the two nations.
In a gesture of cultural exchange, Ambassador Şen introduced Turkish actor Ali Burak Ceylan and proposed a unique award night in Cairo to honor Turkish and Egyptian talents from popular television series. This initiative aims to foster artistic collaboration and celebrate the rich cultural heritage shared by both countries.
Concluding his speech, Ambassador Şen reflected on the essence of Ramadan as a time of worship, patience, and reconciliation. He expressed hopes for the festival of Eid al-Fitr to bring joy and solidarity not only to Egypt and Turkey but to the entire Muslim world and beyond, emphasizing the importance of cooperation and shared humanity.
