Turkey Says 13.5 Mln Citizens Affected by Earthquake

Turkish Minister of Urban Development, Murat Kurum announced on Tuesday, that 13.5 million citizens have been directly affected by the powerful earthquake that hit the country yesterday.

In televised remarks, the minister continued that rescue efforts are still continuing, explaining that work is underway to reopen the roads that were closed in order to facilitate rescue work and deliver water to citizens as soon as possible.

On his part, Turkish Vice President Fuat OktayTurkish said on Tuesday that 52,000 afflicted people have been distributed to shelters.

Moreover, he added that the death toll from the earthquake that struck Turkey has risen to 3,419, with 20,534 people injured.
