A special tribute was paid to Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi during the International Day of Solidarity with Palestine, organized by the Arab League in Cairo.

The event honored her commitment to the Palestinian cause and her ultimate sacrifice.

Turkish Ambassador to Egypt Salih Mutlu Şen received a commemorative plaque on behalf of Turkey in memory of Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi, who tragically lost her life while peacefully protesting illegal settlements in the West Bank.

The Arab League hosted the event on 1 December 2024, drawing prominent figures, including the Deputy Secretary-General of the Arab League, the Secretary-General of Al-Azhar, the spokesperson for the Orthodox Church, and permanent representatives of Palestine and Iraq.

Attendees also included ambassadors, diplomatic representatives, and officials such as UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini and UN Resident Coordinator in Cairo Elena Panova.

Şen received the plaque commemorating Ece, who was killed on 6 September 2024 by an Israeli soldier while participating in a peaceful protest near Beita, in the occupied West Bank.

Eygi, a graduate in Middle Eastern languages and cultures from an American university had become a symbol of unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian struggle.

Şen emphasized that Eygi exemplified the spirit of Turkish solidarity with Palestine, a sentiment shared by citizens across the nation.

He noted her tragic death and her burial in Didim, Aydın Province, Turkey, following a high-profile funeral attended by her family, Vice President of Turkey Cevdet Yılmaz, and Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.

A heartfelt message from Ece’s family was shared during the event, describing her as resilient, compassionate, and deeply devoted to the Palestinian cause. Her life, the family remarked, was unjustly taken by the excessive and unlawful violence of Israeli forces.

Şen assured attendees that the plaque honoring Ece would be delivered to her family and reaffirmed that her legacy and dedication to justice would endure.
