Turkey has officially submitted a request to join the BRICS group of emerging economies, according to a spokesperson for the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP).
Ömer Çelik, the party's spokesperson, announced the development during a press briefing in Ankara on Monday, signaling Turkey's interest in becoming part of this influential economic bloc.
"Our request in this regard is clear, and the process is ongoing," Çelik stated.
While he did not specify the exact timing of Turkey's application, he assured that the public would be informed once there are any updates regarding the request.
As of now, there has been no immediate response from the current BRICS member states, which include Russia, Brazil, India, China, and South Africa.
