Turkey and Egypt are marking the 100th anniversary of their diplomatic relations with special light shows in their respective capitals.

The iconic Atakule Tower in Ankara, Turkey's capital, and the Iconic Tower in Egypt's New Administrative Capital (NAC) were illuminated with the Turkish and Egyptian flags.

The Turkish Ambassador to Cairo, Mr. Salih Mutlu Şen, attended the light show at the Iconic Tower in the New Administrative Capital (NAC), commemorating the 100th anniversary of Turkish-Egyptian diplomatic relations.

The centennial celebration coincides with the anniversary of the mutual appointment of diplomatic and consular representatives between the two countries in 1925.

In that year, the Egyptian Ambassador in Ankara and the Turkish Ambassador in Cairo assumed their duties after reaching an understanding and agreement.

Later, Egyptian consuls general began working in other cities of Turkey, especially in Istanbul, and the Turkish Consulate General was established in Alexandria, Egypt.

The establishment of diplomatic relations coincides with the period when Ghazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was the President after the founding of the Republic of Turkey, and King Farouk was the ruler in Egypt.

Since then, the two states and nations have worked to strengthen their international relations with the strength they derive from their thousand-year history and shared culture, in line with mutual interest, and cooperation.

Turkish Ambassador to Cairo Salih Mutlu Şen personally attended and witnessed the light show at the Iconic Tower in the New Administrative Capital (NAC).

In his statement to reporters, he said: "Turkey and Egypt will enrich and celebrate this year with cultural, artistic and academic activities."

In this context, he noted that the "Fire of Anatolia" dance troupe is also planning to put on an impressive show near the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt this summer.

He explained that a mutual agreement has been reached to organize a friendly match between the Turkish and Egyptian national football teams under the age of 19 this year.

He also said that a group from Egypt was invited to the celebrations of the April 23 National Sovereignty and Children's Day, which has been organized by the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT) for years and has become a tradition in Turkey, noting that the invited group is expected to participate in the program.

Moreover, Şen affirmed that the relations between the two countries will continue to deepen and develop in all fields, with the aim of achieving regional peace, security, stability and mutual development.

He further stated that the Turkish Foreign Minister (FM) Hakan Fidan, is also scheduled to visit Cairo this year, during which the strategic relations between the two countries will be reviewed and new steps will be taken in various fields.

He emphasized that Turkey and Egypt will not only be in close consultation and coordination for regional peace, security and stability, but the goal from now on will continue with a focus on economic development and progress and prosperity through trade, investment and industry, in line with the mutual interests of both countries.

In addition, Turkish Ambassador explained that the most important source of inspiration for achieving this goal and strategy is the common history and culture between the two brotherly countries, which extends for more than a thousand years, and the love and ties between the two brotherly countries.
