Turkey announced on Wednesday the arrest of a British gang leader involved in drug trafficking, illegal arms trade, and robberies in an operation carried out in Istanbul.
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya stated that Sean Monaghan, the leader of a gang operating in northeast England, was wanted under a red notice issued by Interpol.
Yerlikaya added that Monaghan had arrived in Turkey in October, and the Interpol notice was published yesterday.
Turkish police located him in the Fatih district of Istanbul and arrested him today.
A video released by the Ministry of Interior showed the drug enforcement police apprehending a man in a hotel room.
Yerlikaya stated on the "Ex" platform that Monaghan's gang was involved in distributing cocaine, heroin, and armed robberies.
This operation is the latest in a series of tracking and apprehension operations targeting international organized crime gangs in the past few weeks.
