The White House said on Tuesday that President Donald Trump is reviewing several options regarding the possible acquisition of Greenland, including the potential use of military force. Greenland is a self-governing territory under the sovereignty of Denmark.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the president considers Greenland a national security priority for the United States. In comments reported by Agence France-Presse, she stated that control of the island is vital to countering rival powers and strengthening U.S. deterrence capabilities in the Arctic region.
Leavitt said the president and his national security team are examining several pathways to advance this foreign policy objective. She added that the use of the U.S. military remains an option available to the commander-in-chief, underscoring the seriousness with which the administration views the issue.
Trump has previously expressed interest in Greenland due to its strategic location, growing geopolitical importance in the Arctic, and its potential role in future security and defense planning. The latest remarks signal that the administration continues to treat the matter as part of its broader approach to Arctic security amid rising global competition in the region.
