U.S. President Donald Trump issued a warning to the international community, stating, "Venezuela may not be the last country to face U.S. intervention. We need Greenland, absolutely; it is surrounded by Russian and Chinese ships."
Speaking to "The Atlantic" regarding the future of Venezuela, Trump indicated a clear shift from his previous stance against regime change and nation-building, dismissing the concerns of many of his supporters.
"You know, rebuilding there and regime change—whatever you want to call it—is better than what they have now. It couldn't possibly get any worse," he said.
Trump also directed a veiled threat at the new Venezuelan leader, Delcy Rodríguez, saying: "If she doesn’t do the right thing, she’s going to pay a very heavy price, probably even bigger than Maduro’s."
Moreover, Trump clarified that he would not accept what he described as Rodríguez’s "categorical refusal" of the U.S. military intervention that resulted in Maduro's capture.
