President Donald Trump has signed an executive order directing federal agencies to work with technology companies and universities to transform government data into new scientific discoveries, part of his broader push to make artificial intelligence a driver of America’s future economic growth.
The order, signed Monday, unveils the “Genesis Mission,” a new project that instructs the Department of Energy and national laboratories to build a unified digital platform housing the nation’s scientific data.
According to senior White House officials, who briefed reporters on background, the initiative invites private-sector partners and academic institutions to apply their AI capabilities to national challenges in engineering, energy, and security.
Potential applications include improving the efficiency of the US electric grid and advancing complex technical research.
Officials emphasized that the project does not currently include any specific effort tied to medical breakthroughs.
