U.S. President Donald Trump said he hopes to reach an agreement with Iran, emphasizing that diplomacy remains his preferred option amid escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran.
Speaking in response to a reporter’s question about Iranian warnings, Trump stated that the United States is still seeking a deal with Iran, adding, “If we don’t reach an agreement, then we’ll find out who is right.” His remarks came after Iran’s Supreme Leader warned that any U.S. attack would ignite a wider regional conflict.
Iranian media quoted Ali Khamenei as saying that threats of war and military mobilization against Iran are not new, stressing that Iran does not seek conflict but will respond forcefully to any aggression. He added that the Iranian people would deliver a strong blow to anyone who attacks the country.
Trump’s comments followed hours after he suggested that a negotiated settlement could prevent military action, even as the United States reinforced its military presence in the Middle East by deploying a naval strike group led by the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln near Iranian waters.
In an interview with Fox News, Trump said Iran is engaging seriously with the United States, signaling that discussions are ongoing. He also noted that Washington cannot share its military plans with regional allies for security reasons.
