US President Donald Trump told reporters that he underwent an MRI during a recent visit to Walter Reed Medical Center. This is the first time he has provided details of the tests he underwent during his second physical this year, raising new questions about the president's health.
"Yes, I had the MRI. The results were excellent," Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One on Monday. "I gave you the full results. We did the MRI, the machine, you know, everything, and the results were perfect."
According to CNN, Trump, who at 79 is one of the oldest presidents in US history, declined to reveal why he underwent the MRI during a visit to Walter Reed Hospital earlier this month, asking reporters to "ask the doctors."
Trump said his doctors gave reporters a "very comprehensive" report on the scan, but the White House had not previously disclosed the reason for his unusual second visit, which departs from the presidential tradition of having one comprehensive physical annually.
He said, "I think they gave you a very comprehensive report—nobody has ever given you reports like I did. If I didn't think the results were going to be good, I would have told you, and I wouldn't have run for president. I would have taken some action. But the doctor said it was one of the best reports for my age, and one of the best." Reports They've Ever Seen
The White House announced months ago that Trump had been examined for swelling in his legs and diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency. Trump also faced scrutiny over recurring bruises on his right hand, which he sometimes appeared to try to hide with heavy makeup. White House physician Dr. Sean Barbabella attributed the bruises to a combination of "frequent handshakes" and aspirin use, which can increase the appearance of bruises.
