Egypt is witnessing significant growth in inbound tourism, driven by the wide diversity of destinations and tourism products it offers, according to Tim Scofield, Senior Client Advisor at TripAdvisor.
He said this diversity has positioned Egypt as one of the most attractive destinations on the global tourism map.
Scofield noted that indicators and data available on the TripAdvisor platform show that Egypt’s tourism destination outperforms several competing countries, including Turkey and Spain, both in terms of the variety of tourism experiences and overall visitor satisfaction. He added that most data and analyses point to a strong desire among tourists visiting Egypt to return again, reflecting the high quality of the tourism experience and the uniqueness of the Egyptian destination, as well as its ability to build long-term relationships with visitors.
These remarks came during a specialized workshop held by Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy with representatives of TripAdvisor, one of the world’s leading online travel and tourism platforms. The workshop was organized as part of the ongoing partnership between the ministry and the platform, with the participation of private sector tourism stakeholders, and was hosted at the Grand Egyptian Museum.
In his opening remarks, Fathy welcomed attendees and stressed that the workshop reflects the ministry’s commitment to developing tourism promotion mechanisms and creating new and innovative visitor experiences that align with global shifts in travel patterns and visitor interests.
The minister highlighted Egypt’s vast diversity of tourism assets, ranging from cultural, beach, and eco-tourism to medical tourism and adventure travel. He said the ministry is working to capitalize on this diversity by offering varied and non-traditional tourism products that help extend tourists’ length of stay and increase average spending.
Fathy emphasized that tourism in Egypt is unique and unlike any other destination, noting that the experience goes beyond visiting archaeological sites to include interaction with Egyptian street culture and everyday life—an aspect that is particularly appealing to foreign visitors.
He added that international tourism experts have developed a strong understanding of Egyptian street culture and frequently express their appreciation for this cultural interaction and the distinctive human experience that sets Egypt apart.
The minister also addressed the evolution of communication tools with tourists, explaining that many tourism companies have begun developing and training call center teams after it became clear that automated response systems alone are insufficient to meet customer needs or handle diverse requirements effectively.
The workshop featured extensive discussions on food experiences and related cultural aspects, and how Egypt’s cultural diversity can be showcased through modern presentation methods that reflect the identity of the Egyptian tourism destination and strengthen its global image, leveraging digital marketing tools and international travel platforms.
