Tourism Minister Highlights Strong Historical Ties Between Egypt & India

Cairo - The Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Ahmed Issa, emphasized the deep-rooted and historical relations between Egypt and India during an event in Cairo today. Drawing attention to the two nations' strategic partnership, he called for bolstering cooperation in the tourism sector.

The statement was made during an event jointly organized by the Indian Embassy in Cairo and the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism, aimed at promoting tourism between the two countries. The event encouraged Egyptian tourists to explore India's rich heritage.

Minister Issa described the bilateral ties as "exceptional", referencing the recent visit by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to India in January and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's June trip to Cairo. During his visit, Prime Minister Modi toured iconic Egyptian landmarks, including the Pyramids, the Mosque of Al-Hakim, and the Commonwealth graves in New Cairo.

Issa stressed the importance of incentivizing tourists from both countries to visit each other, pointing out the pivotal role tourism plays in strengthening ties between nations. He also congratulated India on its 77th Independence Day, indicating that the current event signifies both nations' dedication to enhancing collaboration in the tourism sector.

The minister acknowledged the challenges the global tourism industry faced due to the COVID-19 pandemic but was optimistic about its current recovery, including in Egypt. He showcased Egypt's initiatives in various sectors and highlighted the launch of a new tourism strategy, supporting efforts by the private sector on both sides to promote mutual visits.

In conclusion, Minister Issa lauded India's current leadership of the G20 group and expressed gratitude for inviting Egypt as the honorary guest of the presidency.
