TotalEnergies announced on Thursday it will maintain its cap on fuel prices across France for as long as geopolitical tensions in the Middle East continue to disrupt global energy markets.

The French energy giant said it will uphold the price ceilings first introduced in March at approximately 3,300 service stations nationwide, aiming to shield consumers from persistent volatility in oil prices.

Under the extended policy, gasoline prices will remain capped at €1.99 per liter, while diesel will be set at €2.25 per liter throughout May.

The move comes as crude prices remain elevated due to ongoing regional instability, which has tightened supply expectations and driven up refining and distribution costs.

TotalEnergies added that it would pass on any declines in global fuel prices directly to consumers, signaling flexibility should market conditions improve.

In a bid to further ease pressure on motorists, the company also unveiled temporary nationwide fixed-price offers during key holiday weekends in May, including Labour Day, Victory in Europe Day, and Ascension Day, periods typically associated with higher travel demand.

During these extended weekends, gasoline will remain priced at €1.99 per liter, while diesel will be discounted to €2.09 per liter across the company’s network.

The initiative underscores growing efforts by major energy firms to balance profitability with social and political pressures, particularly as European consumers grapple with elevated living costs and energy-driven inflation.
