British actor, Tom Holland has given an update on the development of his fourth outing as the web-slinging superhero within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
At the premiere of his new Apple TV+ show “The Crowded Room” in New York City on Thursday night, Holland told Variety that though he can’t share too much, he has “been having meetings” about the next chapter in the Marvel franchise.
However, those conversations have been put on hold for now due to the ongoing writers' strike.
“I can’t talk about that, but I can say that we have been having meetings. We’ve put the meetings on pause in solidarity with the writers,” Holland said.
“There’s been multiple conversations had, but at this point it’s very, very early stages,” he added.
Holland echoed what “Spider-Man” producer Amy Pascal told Variety on Wednesday night at the premiere of another movie in the Spidey universe, “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse”.
“Are we going to make another movie? Of course we are,” Pascal said. “We’re in the process, but the writers strike, nobody is working during the strike. We’re all being supporters and whenever they get themselves together, we’ll get started.”
Holland last starred as the Spider-Man in "Spider-Man: No Way Home", which was a big box office hit grossing more than $1.9 billion globally. The movie saw the hero teaming up with past Spideys played by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.
In late 2021, Pascal teased that Holland is expected to keep playing the role for more movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“This is not the last movie that we are going to make with Marvel – [this is not] the last Spider-Man movie,” Pascal told Fandango.
“We are getting ready to make the next Spider-Man movie with Tom Holland and Marvel. We’re thinking of this as three films, and now we’re going to go onto the next three. This is not the last of our MCU movies.”
"Avengers: Secret Wars" is one of the movies Marvel Studios is working on and is set to release on May 1, 2026. The 12-issue comic book saga ran in the mid-1980s and has Spider-Man teaming up with other Avengers like Captain America, Hawkeye, Captain Marvel, Hulk, Iron Man, and more.
