As heatwaves intensify and humidity rises, experts warn that these waves will become more frequent and longer than before.
Instead of lasting for a couple of days as in previous years, this year's heatwaves may extend for up to eight days.
Here are some tips for a healthy and safe summer:
Stay Hydrated: Water is the elixir of life. Increasing water intake ensures that the body remains adequately hydrated and aids in the sweating process, which helps rid the body of toxins.
Optimize Study Conditions: With exams season upon us, concentration and productivity are crucial.
However, extreme heat diminishes a person's ability to focus and achieve tasks efficiently. It's advisable to avoid direct sunlight and seek refuge in air-conditioned rooms or spaces with good ventilation.
Studying during the early morning or dawn hours, when temperatures are cooler, can enhance productivity.
Mindful Nutrition: During heatwaves, traditional heavy meals should be avoided. Instead, opt for cold dishes such as cold cuts, tuna, yogurt dips, and salads.
Steer clear of fatty, body-warming foods like stews and soups. Fresh fruits and light desserts like jelly and pudding should be incorporated into the diet.
Consuming small meals throughout the day, rather than one large meal, prevents bloating and drowsiness.
Dress Appropriately: Light, cotton clothing in light colors provides a safe haven, especially after taking a cool shower to lower body temperature and hydrate the skin.
Light colors do not absorb sunlight rays, keeping the body cooler.
