TikTok is testing a paid subscription model, a concept that will allow creators to charge people to view their content, Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on Friday.
The buzzy video-sharing app didn’t provide further details on the subscription plans, pricing or testing. “We’re always thinking about new ways to bring value to our community and enrich the TikTok experience,” a spokesman said Thursday.
In like manner, US Instagram users will also be able to subscribe to a small number of creators to access exclusive content and features.
Subscribers shall pay a monthly fee to access subscriber-only content from creators they follow, like exclusive Lives and Stories, according to the post. They will also get a purple badge by their username that signals their status to the creator.
The Meta Platforms Inc. unit said its feature could provide content creators with another way to make money from their followers.
Facebook also has its own version of a subscription program for creators.
In addition to Instagram and Facebook, Twitter also introduced Super Follows, and some creators offer additional subscriber content off-platform on Patreon or Substack.
