TikTok Inc on Monday filed a lawsuit challenging the state of Montana's new ban on the use of the Chinese-owned app, the first state to bar the popular short-video sharing service.
The American “CNBC” news network reported on Monday that lawyers for the application’s parent company have confirmed that the lawsuit filed in the United States District Court of Montana aims to prevent the state of Montana from illegally banning TikTok.
The lawyers said Montana's ban curtails free speech in violation of the First Amendment, violates the United States Constitution in many other respects, and is also prohibited by federal law.
Last week, Montana became the first US state to ban TikTok over allegations that the Chinese government could use the app for intelligence gathering.
