The President of the rebel Tigray region in northern Ethiopia declared that his people are ready to die, commenting on the deadline set by the Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

Leader of the TLF, Debretsion Gebremichael told AFP: "How many times has Abiy given three days to surrender? "

The Leader continued: "He does not know who we are. We are people with cause and ready to die over defending our rights to administer our region."

He added, "They are trying to cover up the defeat they suffered on three front so that they can have time to re-position."

In a statement directed to the Tigray Liberation Front leaders, Ahmed Abiy gave them 72 hours to give up their arms, saying that "this is their last opportunity."
