On Saturday, thousands of tourists from Egypt and outside it flocked to the Karnak Temple to witness the phenomenon of the sun aligned on the main axis of the Karnak Temple. This event occurs annually on December 21, marking the start of winter.

Professor Mohamed Abdel-Badea, Head of the Egyptian Antiquities Sector at the Supreme Council of Antiquities, explained that children dressed in Pharaonic attire welcomed visitors with flowers and souvenirs, presenting them with artistic performances inspired by ancient Egyptian art.

Additionally, Professor Mahmoud El-Adisy, Director of the Archaeological Awareness Department, delivered a lecture on the significance of this phenomenon, highlighting the ancient Egyptians' genius in linking astronomical calculations with architectural engineering and temple planning.

Professor Abdel-Khaleq Helmy, General Director of Al Karnak Antiquities, elaborated that this phenomenon showcases the remarkable skills of the ancient Egyptians in integrating astronomy and architectural engineering.

He noted their dedication over 2,000 years to constructing the Karnak temples.

During the event, the sun rises above the sacred boat shrine of Amun-Ra, built by King Philip Arrhidaeus, brother of Alexander the Great. The sunlight aligns with the main axis of Karnak, stretching from east to west, passing through the entrances of pylons six to one and the Great Hypostyle Hall, providing visitors with a breathtaking view from the Karnak Temple.
