The Weeknd to Star in HBO Max Series "The Idol"

The Weeknd is trying his hand at acting with the HBO Max cult drama series, "The Idol".

He is also set to co-write and executive produce the series, which is being co-created by BAFTA Award-winning Euphoria creator Sam Levinson and Reza Fahim, a former nightlife entrepreneur-turned-writer, who is also The Weeknd’s producing partner.

Levinson, Fahim, Epstein, Ashley Levinson, Kevin Turen, Bron Studios’ Aaron L. Gilbert will exec produce, while Joseph Epstein will serve as showrunner and writer on the project. Mary Laws will write and co-exec produce.

The Grammy-winning superstar’s manager Wassim “SAL” Slaiby and creative director La Mar C. Taylor also will co-exec produce.

"The Idol", which is currently in development, centers around a female pop singer who begins a romance with an enigmatic L.A. club owner, who is secretly the leader of a cult.

The project marks The Weeknd’s first foray into live-action TV after he lent his voice to "American Dad!" and "Robot Chicken".
