Praying for the Prophet - may God bless him and grant him peace - is a divine command mentioned by God in the Holy Qur’an. God Almighty has addressed the believers in His Wise Book in more than one verse and in more than one place to urge them to pray for the Prophet - may God bless him and grant him peace. Then God Almighty said: “Indeed, May God and His angels bless the Prophet, O you who have believed, bless him and grant him peace, which indicates that the virtue of praying upon the Prophet is great.

Hadith on the virtue of praying upon the Prophet

Hadith on the virtue of blessing the Prophet, on the authority of Abdullah, on the authority of Al-Tufayl ibn Ubayy ibn Ka’b, on the authority of Ubayy ibn Ka’b, who said: I said: “O Messenger of God, I pray often for you, so how much May you have one of my prayers? He, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: “Whatever you want.” I said: a quarter. He said: “Whatever you want, and if you increase, it is better for you.” I said: a third. He said: “Whatever you want, and if you increase, it is better for you.” I said: half. He said: “Whatever you want, and if you increase, it is better for you.” I said: two-thirds. He said: “Whatever you want, and if you increase, it is better for you.” I said: I make my prayer complete. He said: “Your worries will be satisfied, and your sins will be forgiven.”

Preferred blessings on the Prophet

First: The one who prays to the Prophet - may God bless him and grant him peace - is rewarded with ten good deeds.

Second: The person praying is raised ten degrees above the Prophet - may God bless him and grant him peace.

Third: Ten sins will be forgiven for the one who prays over the Prophet - may God bless him and grant him peace.

Fourth: A reason for the Messenger’s intercession - may God bless him and grant him peace - for him on the Day of Resurrection.

Fifth: God is sufficient for the servant who prays over the Messenger of God for whatever matters to him.

Sixth: The angels pray upon the servant if he prays upon the Messenger of God - may God bless him and grant him peace.

Seventh: Praying for the Prophet is considered compliance with the commands of God Almighty.

Eighth: One of the reasons for a supplication being answered if it ends and begins with it.

Ninth: It saves the Muslim from the characteristic of stinginess.

Tenth: One of the reasons for offering blessings.

Eleventh: A reason to keep the foot of the praying servant firmly on the straight path on the Day of Resurrection.

Twelfth: Getting closer to God Almighty.

Thirteenth: Obtaining what one wants in this world and the hereafter.

Fourteenth: A reason to open the doors of mercy.

Fifteenth: True and definitive evidence of love for the Messenger of God - may God bless him and grant him peace.

Sixteenth: A reason to prevent poverty.

Seventeenth: Honoring a Muslim by presenting his name to the Prophet - may God bless him and grant him peace.

Eighteenth: A reason to revive the heart of a Muslim.

Nineteen: Getting closer to the Messenger - may God bless him and grant him peace - in status.

Twenty: The virtue of praying for the Prophet - may God bless him and grant him peace - is not limited to these benefits only, but rather goes beyond to reach hundreds of virtues that bring benefit and goodness to the Muslim in this world and the hereafter.

Preferred blessings on the Prophet

On the authority of Omar, he said, I heard the Messenger of God - may God bless him and grant him peace - saying: “If you hear the muezzin, say as he says, and pray for me, for whoever prays for me once, God will pray for me ten times, then ask for the means for me, for it is a position in Paradise that is appropriate only for a servant of God’s servants, and I hope That I am he, so whoever asks for the means for me, intercession will come to him.” [Narrated by Muslim]. He said - may God bless him and grant him peace -: “Whoever prays for me in the morning and ten in the evening, my intercession will reach him.” [Narrated by Al-Tabarani in Al-Kabir and authenticated by Al-Albani]. And he - may God’s prayers and peace be upon him - said: “Whoever prays one blessing upon me, may God’s prayers be upon him ten times.” [Narrated by Muslim, Ahmad and the Three].=

On the authority of Abd al-Rahman bin Awf, he said: I came to the Prophet while he was prostrating, so he prostrated for a long time. He said: “Gabriel came to me and said: Whoever prays upon you, I pray upon him, and whoever greets you, I greet him, so I prostrated in gratitude to God.” [Narrated by Al-Hakim, Ahmad, and Al-Jahdhami, and Al-Hakim said: It is authentic, but they did not narrate it.

On the authority of Yaqoub bin Zaid bin Talha al-Taymi, he said: The Messenger of God - may God bless him and grant him peace - said: “He came to me from my Lord and said: There is no servant who prays upon you except that God blesses him with it ten times.” Then a man stood up to him and said: O Messenger of God, make half my supplication. for you! He said: “If you wish.” He said: Should I not make a third of my supplications! He said: {If you wish}. He said: Should I not make all my supplications? He said: {Then God will suffice you with the worries of this world and the hereafter.} Narrated by Al-Jahdhami.

The best formula for praying upon the Prophet

There are several formulas for praying for the Prophet Muhammad - may God bless him and grant him peace - and scholars have stated that the best of them is the Abrahamic prayer: “O God, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You prayed for Abraham and the family of Abraham. You are Praiseworthy, Glorious, O God, Most Righteous May peace be upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad Just as You blessed Abraham and the family of Abraham, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious.
