The dream of controlling high prices

Will prices actually decrease? Will the phenomenon of  the shortage and disappearance of goods from the markets end?! Then these goods appear after its prices increase, the prices increase despite the decline in the dollar price and the unification of the exchange rate, but the markets were not affected and we did not feel this decline. Who monitors the markets?

Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, said that the government is following up the issue of controlling prices, which will take a downward path and will continue to decline during the coming period amid the stability of monetary policies, the availability of hard currency, and the operation of factories at full capacity.

These promises of the Prime Minister reassure the citizen, after we witnessed successive waves of high prices during a short period. Prices rose before the holy month of Ramadan, rose again over the float, and rose ahead of Eid al-Fitr. I am talking about almost all commodities, not one, two, or even three, but everything is expensive, and before the Eid holiday ends, we began to witness a decrease in the prices of some basic commodities, but for example, when the Chambers of Commerce announced a decrease in the price of flour, this decrease was not reflected in the citizen, nor he felt it.

In all major countries, there is a mechanism that leaves the market to be controlled by supply and demand, but there are other controls that must go along with that, which is strict supervision and laws that are applied to monopolists of goods, smugglers, and exploiters. The whole world lives in a free economy, but there should be mechanisms and controls monitored by governments so that the citizen is not exposed to exploitation.

So why don't the regulatory agencies become more active to monitor prices, set indicative prices and protect citizens from exploitation?

The state should intervene to pump  basic commodities into the markets to create a balance between supply and demand, so as not to leave the consumer an easy prey for exploiters and greedy people?!

I suggest founding guidance committees that announce the fair price for each commodity.

We are currently talking about the prices of basic commodities, but we want indicative committees to announce the fair price for all commodities, whether in food, clothing, real estate, or cars. These committees set an indicative price and don't control the market or pricing, but there should be oversight and committees that announce the fair price based on the cost of the commodity and the profit margin.

Everyone is waiting for the drop of prices according to the logic of decrease in th cost prices with the decline in the price of the dollar because we import most of the production requirements.

I wish we start a plan for self-sufficiency in producing all our needs, including production requirements, so that we would not be affected by the rise or drop of exchange rates.
