At least 110 people have been injured after hailstones, the size of tennis balls, fell in a region of northern Italy.
And the Italian newspaper El-Journal indicated that a sudden storm, with hailstones with balls up to 10 cm in diameter, fell in the streets of Veneto, according to the regional president, Luca Zaia.
Veneto's regional civil protection agency said emergency services had responded to more than 500 calls for help with property damage and personal injury.
Workers removed glass from broken windows and cut down trees and other plants that were badly damaged by the storm.
"The wave of bad weather that hit the mountainous areas in northern Italy has now also hit the plains, injuring some people," Zaia said, adding that most of the injuries were caused by broken glass and people slipping into snowballs.
Europe is experiencing drastic changes in the weather this year, as Italy, Spain, and Greece faced intense heat for several days. On Tuesday, the Italian capital, Rome, recorded a new record temperature of 41 degrees Celsius.
