The Taliban placed a new limitation on Afghan women, this time requiring female doctors and healthcare professionals to wear masks over their faces and to always wear the "Islamic hijab" while working.

The Taliban-run ministry of public health's vice and virtue department chief, Mohammad Qasim Haqqani, issued a letter on Tuesday ordering all female medical professionals working in hospitals and clinics to cover their faces with a full hijab.

According to the Taliban's letter, women do not always wear the hijab, and their investigations indicate that female doctors and other healthcare professionals do not always wear the hijab. As a result, "the department of vice and virtue of the ministry of health directs all female health workers in directorates, and administrations to completely observe their hijabs,"

The Taliban also included images of women wearing the full Islamic headscarf, which covers the entire body except for the eyes.

19 hospitals controlled by the Taliban received the letter.
