28 people have been injured, with seven of them transported to the hospital, following an explosion that occurred at a traditional popular festival in the southwestern city of Chiai, according to the Central News Agency of Taiwan on Sunday.

According to the agency, the explosion took place last night during the festival, which was attended by over 20,000 people.

A total of 28 individuals were injured in the incident, with seven of them being rushed to the hospital after sustaining injuries from glass shards or burns.

One person suffered serious injuries and has been placed in the intensive care unit.

Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the explosion. Many speculate that it may have originated from one of the fuel-operated portable generators, while others have not ruled out the possibility of fireworks or a malfunction in the electrical network.
