On Friday, Syrian President Bashar Al-Asad's communications advisor Luna Shebel passed away "after a painful road accident," the state-run Syrian news agency SANA reported.
Earlier, it was reported that Shebel was in intensive care after suffering "serious injuries," an official statement said.
The statement concluded: "In recent years, she has been director of the political and media office at the presidency and then advisor."
The president office also offered the president's condolences to her family.
According to the president office's statement, Shebel's car "deviated" from a road to Damascus on Tuesday afternoon.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) added that her vehicle was hit by another car, causing her to lose control which led to the accident.
The other driver of the other vehicle was arrested and taken to a security centre for further investigations.
