The Syrian Embassy in Amman announced on Saturday that it is offering special facilitation for Syrian citizens wishing to return to Syria from Jordan.
According to a post on the embassy’s official Facebook page, Syrians can now receive a free passage ticket for their return to Syria.
The ticket, however, is valid for only one month from the date of issuance and cannot be renewed.
This initiative follows remarks made by Jordan’s Minister of Interior Mazen Al-Farayeh, who reported that since December 8, a total of 7,250 Syrians have crossed back into Syria through the Jaber-Nasib border crossing.
The majority of these returnees are not classified as refugees, according to Al-Farayeh.
The Jaber-Nasib border crossing, which is the only operational crossing between the two countries, allows for the passage of both people and goods.
This crossing had been temporarily closed in the past due to the advance of armed opposition groups near the Syrian capital of Damascus, which led to the fall of the Assad regime. However, traffic resumed after a two-week hiatus, with dozens of vehicles and trucks moving in both directions.
Al-Farayeh also stated on December 9 that the "conditions are largely favorable" for Syrian refugees to return to their homeland following the collapse of the Assad regime.
Jordan continues to host approximately 1.3 million Syrian refugees since the outbreak of the Syrian conflict in 2011.
According to UN statistics, there are 4.8 million Syrian refugees globally, with more than 619,000 of them registered in Jordan.
