An unprecedented escalation took place in security tensions in the Syrian coastal region, as the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on Monday that 973 people have been killed since March 6, most of them civilians, as a result of the violent clashes that erupted in the cities of Latakia and Tartous.
These events come amid clashes between government forces and armed groups linked to the former regime, which prompted the authorities to take emergency measures, including imposing a curfew in several areas.
