Switzerland is vying to host a high-level conference on peace in Ukraine in mid-June, with 80 to 100 countries from what's referred to as the "Global South" expected to be invited, according to individuals familiar with the matter.

The conference, as reported by Bloomberg News agency, may take place on June 16 and 17, although the number of leaders who will attend remains unclear.

A spokesperson for Switzerland's Foreign Ministry stated that the date and location of the conference have yet to be determined.

Speaking to Bloomberg News, the spokesperson added that in addition to the views of Ukraine, Russia, and Europe, it is important to listen to the Global South, which plays a significant role in including Russia in the negotiation process.

The initiative reflects Switzerland's ongoing efforts to lead dialogue and mediation in international conflicts.

The conference aims to bring together key stakeholders to discuss and negotiate a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Ukraine, which has persisted for several years and has significant implications for regional and global security.

In recent years, Switzerland has increasingly positioned itself as a neutral mediator and facilitator in international conflicts, leveraging its reputation for impartiality and discretion to bring conflicting parties to the negotiating table.
