CAIRO, Nov. 18 (SEE)- "I have a dream" this time, said by Dr. Hany Swelim Professor of Sustainable Development and Water at the University of Akhen Germany and the American University in Cairo. He dreams to develop real education, schools and Egyptian students without wasting time and effort in the vicious circle of where and how?

The most important crisis of education in Egypt is the lack of possibilities either places or tools or poor teacher training; and the obvious solutions require a lot of money.

But because he is a professor of sustainable development, Swelim is searching for alternative solutions that do not require a lot of money but can help students in pursuing their goals with the will to change.

He thought, decided and formed a team then invited institutions that cooperated; He began his project with schools in Al-Warraq and Balak Dakrour where schools are most in need of help.

At the ceremony held by the American University, Dr. Swelim presented the details of the project and presented young participants and their efforts in its implementation. They include architects who spent long nights to find a solution for the crowded classrooms to reach the best possible distribution that allows students to teach, interact better and creative young people in the training of teachers and students on how to provide interactive education.

During the ceremony, the students of the 'Martyr Mohamed Farouk Wahdan School' presented a play on types of energy in our lives and their impact on the environment. The presentation reflected the interactive education.

Dr. Swelim explained that the Center for Sustainable Development (CSD) created 'EduCamp', an initiative that aims to help certain areas in Egypt through capacity - development activities, to introduce basic sustainability concepts from renewable energy to biopersity in public schools nationwide.

In a consortium of 19 partners, including several European universities and the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, CSD reviewed Egyptian public school curricula based on international best practices for sustainable development education. It developed school kits and teacher guidelines, developed teacher trainings, and extended the pilot program to include two additional phases between 2009 and 2017.

After the success of EduCamp Il, the CSD- now CARES (Center for Applied Research on the Environment and Sustainability) embarked on a mission to implement the project on a larger scale by transforming 2 poor schools in Boulaq El Dakrour in Egypt into schools that meet the objectives of the Country's Sustainable Development Strategy "Egypt 2030".

CARES developed a role model for the Egyptian schools that enables them to deliver education in line with the Egyptian vision 2030 project aims to be achieved through: Developing new ESD kits from grade 1 to 9 tailored to fit the local context of  El Dakrour, focusing on social, economic and environmental issues in Egypt, developing and implementing capacity development program for teachers, principals, administrative staff, and ministry officials to ensure the sustainability of the project.

The project also strives to empower all stakeholders to adapt to ESD practices into their lives. It included renovation of existing facilities of the schools, establishing new rooms and providing all the needed resources such as science and computer labs.

Developing a School Community participatory model between the school and community was another objective to engage various stakeholders of different schools and to ensure a sustainable and continuous model that can be disseminated, and replicated by other schools around Egypt
