Supply Ministry Mandates Maximum Prices Set for 7 Strategic Commodities

Ali Al-Moselhi, Minister of Supply issued a decision regarding the controls and procedures for trading products and commodities that the government considered strategic.

The decision stipulates that companies that produce, import, package, and supply products and commodities (mixed oil, packaged beans, rice, milk, pasta, and white cheese) are obligated to issue tax sales invoices that include data that shows the type of product or commodity, its quantity, date of production, factory selling price, and the maximum final price to the consumer.

The decision also obligated companies and establishments to record the final selling price of products and goods to the consumer, including taxes and financial charges, in Arabic, in a clear, visible handwriting that cannot be removed or erased, provided that the recording is accompanied by a translation in a foreign language, and that the phrase “maximum final selling price to the consumer” is clearly written above the price. (H A S M) or placing a sticker on the packaging of the product or commodity.

The decision also obligated all display and sale points to the final consumer to place the selling price to the consumer on shelves under each product or commodity, not exceeding the maximum final selling price to the consumer.

For each product and commodity, it must include (a description of the product or commodity, the maximum final selling price to the consumer, the date of production, the quantity of production, the quantity of local sales, the stored balances of these products and commodities, and a statement of those dealing with the company or establishment, including the distributor, wholesaler, and retailer, and the selling price), provided that the Ministry Supply and Internal Trade upon the Consumer Protection Agency providing the maximum final selling price to the consumer on the day following the date it receives it.

The decision also obligated the companies and establishments referred to in Article One of this decision, in the event of a change in the maximum final selling price to the consumer for any product or commodity, to notify the new maximum price and the reasons for the change to both the Ministry of Supply and the Technical Secretariat.
