Supply Ministry Denies Rice Shortage in Markets

The Egyptian Cabinet denied what was circulated on some websites and social media pages concerning shortage of rice in the markets, affected by the global economic crisis.

The Cabinet Media Center contacted the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade, which denied the news, stressing that there is no truth to the existence of such crisis in the provisioning of rice in the markets affected by the global economic crisis, according to a statement.

It confirmed the availability of all basic food commodities, including rice, with the regular pumping of abundant quantities daily in markets in all governorates, stressing that Egypt has achieved self-sufficiency in the rice commodity, noting that daily inspection campaigns are launched at all outlets and warehouses to ensure the availability of all commodities, and prevent any manipulation of their prices or monopoly.

The cabinet appealed to the media and social media users to investigate accuracy and objectivity in publishing the news, and to communicate with the concerned authorities to ensure before publishing information that is not based on any facts and leads to confusion among citizens.
