Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Chairman Osama Rabie held high-level talks with Panos Xenokostas, CEO of Greece’s ONEX Shipyards, one of the country’s largest shipbuilding and repair groups, to explore avenues for cooperation in joint manufacturing, technical training, and converting vessels to operate on clean fuels.
This came onn the sidelines of the 14th Arab–Hellenic Economic Forum on Friday.
The meeting was attended by Viron Vassiliadis, Chairman of V Group, the parent company of Antipollution, along with senior ONEX executives including the company’s logistics chief and chief financial officer.
During the visit, Rabie inspected ONEX’s facilities, including workshops, technical training centers, dry docks, and construction yards. He was briefed on the shipyard’s activities in building and converting marine units, as well as its use of advanced technologies in transforming vessels to operate on cleaner fuels alongside conventional ones.
Rabie emphasized that the Suez Canal Authority has made major strides in modernizing and upgrading its own shipyard operations, leveraging the canal’s strategic location and substantial human and technical capabilities. Strengthening partnerships with leading global shipyards, he said, is essential to expanding expertise in shipbuilding, repair, and marine-unit development.
The talks took place as Rabie participated in the opening of the 14th Arab–Hellenic Economic Forum, organized by the Arab–Hellenic Chamber in Athens.
Rabie attended the opening session, titled “Prospects for Future Arab–Greek Cooperation in the Construction and Building Sector,” followed by bilateral meetings with several Greek and Arab companies.
During these discussions, he showcased the capabilities of SCA’s affiliated companies in construction, infrastructure, marine works, ports, and quay development, stressing their extensive expertise in major infrastructure projects. He noted that SCA companies have expanded their portfolio in recent years, successfully executing infrastructure projects across several Arab and African countries.
Rabie expressed strong interest in exploring future partnerships with Greek and Arab firms, reaffirming the readiness of SCA subsidiaries to take part in international infrastructure projects beyond Egypt.
