Suez Canal Authority Chairman Osama Rabie held high-level talks with a delegation from Siemens to explore future cooperation, with a particular focus on advanced technical training and digital capability development.

Discussions centered on ongoing collaboration to upgrade and maintain control and operational systems across several of the Authority’s marine units. Talks also covered the continued servicing of operational and tunnel control systems (ITS), including core monitoring and supervisory systems (SCADA).

Beyond infrastructure, both sides placed significant emphasis on strengthening cooperation in the training and qualification of technical personnel, a pillar the Authority considers central to its modernization strategy.

On the sidelines of the meeting, the two parties signed a cooperation agreement formally accrediting the Siemens laboratory at the Authority’s Innovation and Excellence Center as an authorized facility to grant certified training programs and product-based qualifications from Siemens.

The accreditation enables the center to offer internationally recognized training programs for technical teams both within the Suez Canal Authority and externally, positioning it as a regional hub for advanced industrial training.

Rabie welcomed the Siemens delegation and underscored the Authority’s commitment to expanding cooperation across multiple fields. He noted that the Innovation and Excellence Center has, in a short period, established strategic partnerships with leading global training institutions, including Siemens and Maersk, reinforcing efforts to enhance workforce capabilities across all specialties.

According to Rabie, the partnership with Siemens provides a structured pathway to upskill engineers and technicians within the Authority while also offering external programs aimed at equipping young graduates with skills aligned to labor market needs.

Wael Omar confirmed that the Siemens laboratory successfully completed the required accreditation procedures, becoming the sixth accredited Siemens lab in Egypt, and the only one located in the Canal cities.

The facility is specifically designed for advanced training in Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) systems, utilizing dual training platforms that simulate modern automation technologies. The lab is equipped with high-end technical infrastructure, including advanced display systems and professional-grade audio equipment to ensure effective knowledge transfer.

On its part, Siemens reaffirmed its long-standing strategic relationship with the Suez Canal Authority, which spans more than 125 years. Company representatives expressed readiness to further support capacity-building initiatives, share technological expertise, and contribute to the development of specialized engineering skills.

The meeting, held at the Authority’s Guidance Building in Ismailia, brought together senior Siemens executives, including Margareta Adrenja, Head of Customer Services for the Digital Industries Division, Wael Omar, Senior Vice President for Digital Industries at Siemens Egypt, and Fouad El-Attar, Senior Vice President for Services in the Middle East.
