The Government of Sudan welcomed the response of the president of the United Nations Security Council to Sudan's request to hold a session to discuss the dispute over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam “GERD”, and his statement that the session would be held on July 8.

The Sudanese News Agency, quoting Omar Al-Farouq, the official spokesman for the Renaissance Dam negotiations team, said: "Sudan welcomes the response of the President of the Security Council, to Sudan's request to hold a session to discuss the dispute over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, and his statement to hold the session on July 8."

The Sudanese Foreign Minister sent a letter to the President of the Security Council on June 22, in which she called on the Council to hold a session as soon as possible to discuss developments in the dispute over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.

Al-Mahdi asked the council to urge parties not to take any unilateral actions, and called on Ethiopia not to go ahead with the second filling of GERD.
