Police arrested dozens of protesters at Yale University on Monday morning after officials at the University of New Haven in Connecticut said they were rejecting warnings over the weekend to leave.

After last week's arrests in Colombia, pro-Palestinian protesters set up camps at other universities across the country, including the University of Michigan, MIT, and the University of North Carolina.

The movements on universities came hours before the start of the Jewish Passover holiday on Monday evening.

Last week, police arrested more than 100 pro-Palestinian demonstrators at Columbia University, who had set up a camp on the campus of the university located in New York.

Protesters set up tents in Pinky Plaza on Friday and demonstrated on Saturday, demanding that Yale end any investments in defense companies that do business with Israel.

In a university statement on Sunday, Yale President Peter Salovey said university officials spoke to student protesters several times about the school's policies and guidelines, including those related to freedom of expression and allowing access to campus halls.

“Establishing camps, defying the directives of university officials, remaining on campus beyond permitted times, and other actions that violate university policies and guidelines pose safety risks and hinder the operation of our university,” he said.
