Sony Pictures is re-releasing “Spider-Man: Far From Home” with a new action scene.
A new extended cut of the film will be re-released in theaters in the United States and Canada on August 29.
The revamped version features four minutes of a never-before-seen action sequence and will be available in IMAX and large formats in select locations.
It is the latest Marvel film to return to theaters this year, following Disney’s re-release of “Avengers: Endgame” earlier in the summer.
After garnering $2.74 billion worldwide, the Marvel finale film was reintroduced to theaters in June in an effort to beat “Avatar’s” all-time box office record of 2.79 billion.
In July, it succeeded in becoming the biggest movie in history with more than $2.7902 billion in global ticket sales.
It has also seen its own fair share of success at the box office, becoming Sony Pictures highest-grossing film ever on Sunday with $1.109 billion in global ticket sales, overtaking previous titleholder “Skyfall” which accumulated $1.108 billion during its own global run.
Moreover, its domestic opening was also an all-time opening six-day record for Sony Pictures, scoring $185.06 million in weekend ticket sales.
Additionally, the film outperformed its predecessor, 2017’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” which featured Tom Holland’s solo film debut as Spider-Man.
“Spider-Man: Far From Home” is co-produced by Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios and distributed by Sony Pictures.
The Sony/Marvel sequel is directed by Jon Watts, written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, and co-stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Samuel L. Jackson, Zendaya, Cobie Smulders, Jon Favreau, J. B. Smoove, Jacob Batalon, Martin Starr, Marisa Tomei, and Jake Gyllenhaal.
The plot revolves around Parker is recruited by Nick Fury and Mysterio to face the Elementals while he is on a school trip to Europe.
By October 2016, discussions had begun for a sequel to “Spider-Man: Homecoming”, with a release date given to the film before the end of the year. Holland was confirmed to return in July 2017, with Watts and the writers also confirmed to return by the end of that year.
In 2018, Jackson and Gyllenhaal joined the cast as Fury and Mysterio, respectively.
Holland revealed the sequel's title ahead of filming, which began in July 2018 and took place in England, the Czech Republic, Italy, and the New York metropolitan area. Production wrapped in October 2018.
