King Felipe VI of Spain formally received the credentials of Husni Abdel Wahed as Palestine’s first official ambassador to Spain on Monday. This ceremony marks a significant diplomatic step following Spain’s recognition of the State of Palestine in May.
The official ceremony took place at the Royal Palace in Madrid, where Ambassador Abdel Wahed presented his credentials to the Spanish monarch. The Royal Court broadcasted the event live through the "X" platform, highlighting the importance of this historic moment for both Spain and Palestine.
Ambassador Abdel Wahed has served as the head of Palestine’s diplomatic mission in Spain since 2022. While he had previously held the title of ambassador, his position has now become official following Spain’s recognition of Palestine on May 28, placing Spain alongside countries such as Ireland and Norway that have also extended formal recognition to the State of Palestine.
