South Korean President Yun Sok-yeol on Saturday formally appointed Han Duk-soo as prime minister, after parliament approved his nomination.

According to South Korea’s Yonhap news agency, Han’s nomination was ratified by the opposition-controlled National Assembly yesterday, after nearly 50 days of cross-party wrangling over his suitability for the job.

Earlier today, the South Korean president presented a certificate of appointment to Han at the presidential office in Seoul.

Thus, Han, 72, assumes the position of prime minister for the second time, having previously held this position during the administration of former President Roh Moo-hyun, between 2007 and 2008.
