South African President Cyril Ramaphosa will not be removed from office, as the country's parliament voted against punishing him amid a scandal over conflicts of interest and illegal funds.
The result of the vote to dismiss the president came with the support of 148 deputies and the opposition of 214 ones.
After a long debate, Ramaphosa's African National Congress chose to support him.
The party has ruled in South Africa for more than a quarter of a century and has an absolute majority.
A week ago, Ramaphosa submitted an appeal to the country's Constitutional Court to demand a review of the charges against him, after a report by a parliamentary committee made serious accusations against him.
According to the report, the president violated both the constitution and anti-corruption laws because he failed to report the theft of $500,000 from a farm he owned, which raised questions about his ownership of the farm and why the money was put there.
