South Africa: 4 Killed, 2 Injured in Shooting during Game of Dice

Local newspaper TimesLive, citing police, reported that four people were killed and two injured in a shooting during a dice match in South Africa.

According to the paper, a group of men was playing dice on a street corner on the outskirts of Linasia when they were attacked by unknown assailants.

"Four people were certified dead on the scene while two people were taken to the nearest medical care center after sustaining gunshot wounds," police spokesperson Lt-Col Mavela Masondo was quoted as saying by Timeslive news.

“The motive for the shooting cannot be confirmed at this stage. Five cases of murder and two of attempted murder have been opened for investigation," he added.

After an initial investigation, police concluded that the group of men was attacked at around 19:30 local time (17:30 GMT) on Saturday by unidentified assailants who shot them.

Timeslive News reported that the police launched a manhunt for the suspects.

Around 20,000 people are murdered in South Africa every year out of a population of about 60 million.
