Somalia’s Minister of Security, Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail (Fartaag), held a productive meeting with the United Nations Special Envoy to Somalia, James Swan, to discuss ways of strengthening security cooperation and supporting efforts for peace and stability in the country.
According to the Somali News Agency, discussions on Wednesday focused on enhancing the security partnership between the federal government and the UN, as well as developing mechanisms to support national security forces in addressing challenges, including countering extremist groups, with the aim of establishing lasting stability and security in Somalia.
The UN envoy expressed appreciation for the Somali government’s dedicated efforts to improve the security situation, reaffirming the UN’s commitment to supporting Somalia in achieving its security and sustainable development goals.
For his part, the Somali Minister of Security emphasized the importance of international cooperation in supporting security efforts and creating a stable environment that fosters comprehensive development and meets the aspirations of the Somali people.
